Laramie, Wyo.-Oct. 1-Three Native organizations have contracted with Handel Information Technologies to proceed with various levels of a software design or implementation. These Native organizations are the
- Northwest Intertribal Court System
- Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation
- Saginaw Chippewa Tribe’s Anishnaabeg Child and Family Services Department
Located across the country, these Native organizations have a variety of needs that a new software system could help fulfill.
The Northwest Intertribal Court (NICS) system will track and manage the information in the prosecutor’s department. This department tracks cases for several tribal courts in the Northwest. NICS handles Indian child welfare (ICW) and criminal cases for most of the tribes represented by the board of directors because each individual tribal court is located on its respective reservation. Therefore, the sharing of information with NICS is imperative to it providing necessary services in a timely manner.
The Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation Child Welfare Department will implement a system for child welfare that will encompass all the services they provide, including the administration of:
- ICWA
- Child Protective Services
- Foster Care
- Family Preservation Programs
These programs protect the integrity of Prairie Band of Potawatomi Nation families and ensure the Nation’s children live in safe and healthy environments. The main goal of the program is to help keep youth with their families and to provide resources when needed.
The Saginaw Chippewa Tribe’s Anishnaabeg Child and Family Services Department has requested a design of a software system that will manage its child welfare services. The department strives to promote the safety and well-being of tribal children, youth, elders, vulnerable adults and their families with services that are competent; that embrace the highest of ethical principles; and that strengthen and support families.
“Handel is pleased to have the opportunity to provide the structure and reinforcement for a court system like NICS, to be a part of creating and maintaining healthy communities in the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation and to design a system that may ultimately support the Anishnaabeg Child and Family Services department’s goals,” said Even Brande, CEO of Handel Information Technologies.”
