The Handel Harriers' 170 Mile Mountain Relay Race

The Handel Harriers' 170 Mile Mountain Relay Race

On September 21st -22nd, a Handel sponsored team (the Handel Harriers), made up of Handel employees, ran the grueling 24-hour 170 mile Colorado Relay race. Their journey began in Idaho Springs, a small town in the Colorado Rockies, at 5 AM. Over the course of the following 24 hours, the Handel team conquered the demanding 30 relay legs, with names such as “Oh My Gawd”, “Going Postal” with a set of five aptly named “Butt/Heart/Lung/Knee and Ankle Buster”. Each member ran three legs over the course of the relay during the course of the day, including some starting in pitch blackness (the moon had already set), which considering most of the race legs were off-road forest service roads and trails rambling around the Rocky Mountains, was no easy feat. 170 miles later and what seemed like the longest running day, the team finished in Glenwood Springs. Everyone at Handel congratulates the team on its success and thanks those kind enough who volunteered their time, vehicles and gas to make sure people were where they needed to be and to pull the exhausted bodies back in for a nap before they began their next race legs. Go Handel Harriers!
