Jamapalooza Goes to Nashville
/in Handel News, News, Tribal Government /by Even BrandeNashville, November 13, 2019
For the sixth time, Handel hosted a jam session at the TribalNet Conference. This year, TribalNet took place at the Opryland Resort in Nashville. This is the first time TribalNet has been held in the state of Tennessee. The stage was set up in the Crystal Gazebo, just down the hall from where 650 AM WSM, the most famous country radio station in the world broadcasts. As luck would have it, the conference also coincided with The 53rd Annual Country Music Association Awards, held just down the street at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.
Given all these vibes, it was hard not to adopt a country music theme this year. Consisting of musician’s usually more adept in other musical genres, it may have been a good thing that most country music fans were not at TribalNet but rather at the Bridgestone Arena that night. Yet, our usually crew, augmented by some newcomers, pulled off passable versions of Johnny Cash’ “Ring of Fire,” Buck Owens “Act Naturally,” and many other country standards.
Thanks again to the TribalNet crew for welcoming us back. We are already looking forward to next year when TribalNet goes to Texas!
Handel Vice President Selected to Present at the 2019 TribalNet Conference
/in Adoption, Adult Protective Services, Child Protective Services, Domestic Violence, Employment and Training, Enrollment, Foster Care, Indian Child Welfare, News, TANF Reporting, Tribal Court, Tribal Government, Tribal TANF, Tribal Treatment Services /by Tracey RosenlundHandel’s Vice President of Sales was selected to speak at the 20th Annual TribalNet Conference. This marks the third time Casey Bader has been chosen to facilitate workshops at TribalNet’s annual conference.
His session, “Tribal Member Services—Centralized Data Models,” will examine how to create a 360-degree view of tribal members and how to eliminate the siloed nature of data collection for grant, social, and member service programs. During this session, Casey will also explore how technology is leveraged to enable collaboration and reporting for grants and outcome tracking through The White Earth Nation Coordination, Assessment, Resource and Education (WE CARE) case management model. Through community outreach, White Earth Nation discovered that members were unaware of many programs and services offered and when they did access services were often confused and overwhelmed by the lack of collaboration between programs. WE CARE is operated through a care coordination database system that provides an efficient and effective way to link families to the services they need.
Casey Bader has presented at numerous conferences previously including:
• 2012, 2013 and 2019 TribalNet Conferences
• 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 National Indian Child Welfare Association (NICWA) National American Indian Conferences on Child Abuse and Neglect
• 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 National Indian and Native American Employment/Public Law 102-477 Training Conferences (NINAETC)

Case Study: Multi-County Juvenile Detention Center’s RiteTrack System (Recording)
/in Case Study, Juvenile Detention, Juvenile Facilities, Juvenile Justice, News /by Tracey RosenlundIf you couldn’t make it to the live presentation with the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent of the Multi-County Juvenile Detention Facility, you can access a recording here.
In this recording you can listen and watch as Dana and Bret discuss their experiences with implementing and using RiteTrack as their case management and reporting database system.
They took questions and answers from attendees and discussed the return on investment (ROI) from implementing a web-based system. They found ROI specifically because the functionality is designed for juvenile detention and has reduced time spent tracking clients and cases on paper. It nearly eliminated the use of paper and cut the cost significantly.
Register and watch the webcast to find out how much they saved on cutting the cost of paper alone!

Yurok Tribe Names RiteTrack as Supporting Piece in Grant Award
/in Child Protective Services, Domestic Violence, Foster Care, Indian Child Welfare, News, Technology, Tribal Court, Tribal Government, Tribal TANF, Tribal Treatment Services /by Tracey RosenlundThe Yurok Tribe was awarded a portion of the FY 2018 Enhancing Community Responses to the Opioid Crisis grant. This is a grant intended to provide additional support for the youngest members of their community who are affected by the opioid crisis with a program that will use evidence-based and culturally appropriate tactics. In this grant submission they identify their integrated RiteTrack database system as integral to managing data from multiple departments involved in these cases which they will use to create a feedback system for continued assessment. The programs/departments included on this system are:

- Law enforcement
- Indian Child Welfare (ICW) services

Performance-based Standards & RiteTrack Partner to Improve Data Entry for PbS customers
/in JDAI, Juvenile Detention, Juvenile Facilities, Juvenile Justice, News, PREA, Technology /by Tracey RosenlundJuvenile facilities across the country have opted to work with Performance-based Standards to assist with monitoring confinement conditions in treatment services and residential facilities using national standards and performance outcomes.
PbS is a data-driven improvement model grounded in research that holds juvenile justice agencies, facilities and residential care providers to the highest standards for operations, programs and services.
Twice a year juvenile facilities compile data from day-to-day case management (including incident reports) and enter it into the PbS program interface. The PbS system then analyzes the data to assess whether the facility is meeting performance outcomes and uses this data to create summary reports. These analyses are used to create improvement plans and direct needed reforms in a facility.
Often during the months of April and October, many facilities who partner with PbS for this valuable service struggle with the time it takes for staff to perform daily responsibilities and reenter collected data into the PbS system.
However, in 2017 Handel met PbS at the Michigan Juvenile Detention Association (MJDA) Conference. Both of us saw the potential of a partnership between our two organizations. Over the next few months, we created a RiteTrack module that enables the PbS analysis system to integrate directly with RiteTrack’s case management and reporting solution which eliminates the duplicate data entry staff had to complete for the required reporting periods.
This RiteTrack and PbS integration enables juvenile detention and juvenile justice organizations’ staff to enter daily documentation into one case management system, RiteTrack—which also produces user friendly and reporting for other facility needs—while the integration module imports the required information directly into PbS’s system for the bi-annual reporting periods.
RiteTrack’s juvenile justice module captures required information like incident reports for PbS reporting. Because of the aligned data capture in the systems, information documented in RiteTrack is submitted to PbS through the one-of-a-kind integration module and eliminates duplicate data entry—saving detention staff and administration valuable time.
Contact us if you would like more information on the PbS and RiteTrack integration module or RiteTrack’s solution for juvenile justice and detention facilities.

/in Child Protective Services, Foster Care, Indian Child Welfare, News, Training /by Casey BaderHandel Vice President Casey Bader was once again selected to speak at the National Indian Child Welfare Association (NICWA) 37th Annual Protecting Our Children National American Indian Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect. This marks the sixth time Casey Bader has been chosen to facilitate workshops at NICWA’s annual conference.
Handel is proud to be a long-time sponsor of the NICWA Conference and supporting the important work of this organization. This year’s workshop is “Data Analytics for Continuous Quality Improvement”.
Today organizations have more data available to them than ever before. Yet, few organizations truly understand how to harness this data and turn it into information and knowledge. Data analytics can be used to make meaningful information and drive informed decision out of the wealth of available data. In this workshop Casey will explore data analytics and how it can be applied through the process of Continuous Quality Improvement to inform and improve family and child services.
Casey has over 15 years of experience identifying barriers to evaluating and implementing complex software solutions for social service organizations. Past conference workshop topics have included marketing and outreach for social service programs, engaging membership through technology, the White Earth Nation WE CARE service delivery
