For many years now, Handel has played host to the Jamapalooza jam session at the annual TribalNet conference. TribalNet is the leading conference for tribal technology leaders. Years ago, I discovered how many people in the tech sector also plays a musical instrument. This lead to the idea to start an evening jam session. It would be a way for conference attendees to socialize, relax and play music at the end of a day with seminars, keynotes, and networking. The first year we did it was at the 2014 TribalNet in St. Paul, MN. It started out with a handful of musicians and a few dozen spectators. The event has grown each year since. After a hiatus in 2017 we came back even strong at this year’s TribalNet, held at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV.
This year over 20 musicians came and went throughout the evening. It never ceases to amaze me the amount of musical talent found at this conference. Guitarist, drummers, bass players, keyboardist, and vocalists. What makes this so fun is that none of these people ever play music together outside of TribalNet. Musicians appear on stage, we pick a song, somebody steps up to the microphone, the drummer counts 1,2,3,4 and off we go. Nothing is planned in advance. Yet, we end up having a lot of fun making music together. We certainly had some extra mojo on our side this year surrounded by all the vintage instruments and rock memorabilia on display at the hotel.
